This is the story of my collection: As a kid I collect almost everything. The major collections was stamps and coins. But it was minerals, papermoney, bottlecaps, matchboxes etc. too. When I was 12, my brother and I was curious how many different packets of chewing gum that was. Thats how it started, and after that I just bought every new packet I found. I put it in shoeboxes. When I was about 16, I stopped collecting anything. But I continued to buy packets of gum, only to put them away. I´m 43 now, and some years ago I get what I was looking for in years; a shelf 40 cm width, 70 cm depth and 90 cm height with 20 drawers! That autumn I organized and sorted the gumpackets. It gave the collecting spirit back to me, and since then I have traveled the Internet looking for gum and collectors. My collection contains more than 3500 different packets. But that is just as "a drop in the ocean". The hardest thing is to get any old packets, I have visit many antique stores, with no results. I've realised that this funny little hobby is too big to me. Now I will focus on the norwegian brand "Toy", manufactured by Freia 1932-1998. This was the first brand ever in Norway. Some places in Norway they still say "toy" when they mean "tyggegummi" (Chewing gum). From now on I will collect anything related to "Toy" - ads, signs, wrappers etc.

Dette er historien om min samling: Som guttunge samlet jeg på nesten alt. Hovedinteressen var frimerker og mynter. Men det var steiner, sedler, flaskekorker, fyrstikkesker også. Da jeg var 12 år, ble broren min og jeg nysgjerrig på hvor mange tyggegummipakker som fantes. Det var sånn det startet, og etter det har jeg kjøpt hver eneste ny pakke jeg fant. Jeg la dem i skoesker. Da jeg var 16, sluttet jeg å samle på noe. Men jeg fortatte å kjøpe tyggegummipakker, men bare for å legge dem vekk. Nå er jeg 43 år, og sommeren 97 fant jeg hva jeg har letet etter i mange år; en skuffereol 40x70x90 cm, med 20 skuffer! Den høsten sorterte og organiserte jeg tyggegummipakkene. Det ga meg tilbake samler-ånden, og siden da har jeg brukt internett for å søke etter tyggegummi og andre samlere. Samlingen min inneholder nå over 3500 forskjellige pakker. Men det er nok bare som en dråpe i havet. Det vanskeligste er å få tak i gamle pakker. Jeg har besøkt mange brukt og antikk butikker, uten resultat. Jeg har nå innsett at denne hobbyen er litt for stor for meg, så jeg vil nå konsentrere meg om det norske merket "Toy", som ble laget av Freia fra 1932-1998. Dette var den første norske tyggegummien. I Finnmark sier de fremdeles "Toy" når de mener tyggegummi. Fra nå vil jeg samle alt tilgjengelig materiell som har med "Toy " å gjøre. Alt fra reklame, annonser, skilt, toy-papir osv.
